Hustlin' down Willow Creek Canyon

Hustlin' down Willow Creek Canyon, Artist Over 65
Hustlin' down Willow Creek Canyon
Pack burro racing is Colorado's Summer Heritage Sport involving long-distance foot races between teams of racers and burros over high alpine terrain. Among the more recent additions to the pack burro racing circuit is the one in Creede, the site of gold rush excitement in Colorado in the 1890s. This 10-mile course loops through the Willow Creek Canyon with its rushing Willow Creek and numerous slope-clinging abandoned mines. This work depicts a racer and his burro on the final section of the course hustling down this steep narrow canyon toward the finish line.
