"I started a drawing thirty years ago and lost control. It simply vanished, disappeared from the world. I searched, fumed, doubted myself. Had I ever really started? It became a pentimento in my memory. And then it reappeared, I have no explanation for this. The bottom right hand corner had a perfectly resolved set of lips and nothing more, and I wondered if perhaps they had talked to me over the decades."
