Tidal Chase

I work from sketches and photo references. The mood of the sea this hot August day was heaving and rolling, strong and powerful. The sun was strong and reflected in sharp glints off the wave tips. I start with a layer of dry pastel washed down by alcohol to set in my darks, then add layers of dry pastel on top. This painting was created entirely using pastels I made from scraps of old or shattered pieces of pastels.
