Has much as she really did love her little brothers, a family vacation to a cold empty beach was not exactly where my daughter wanted to be spending her 15th birthday. The Cornish winter weather matched her mood; a squall was blowing around Land's End Point and even at low tide the foaming undercurrents kept the causeway to St Michaels Mount closed. It was her birthday wish to visit all the locations where her favourite movie adaptation of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night was filmed. But to me, The MoM, my daughter is the loveliest of creatures even in all her stormy teen-age angst. The weather cleared the next day and much joy was had by all as we spent the rest of the week visiting the highways and by-ways and beaches and headlands and little towns of Cornwall. With a few on site sketches and reference photos this was painted back home in the shelter of my cozy studio; though beautiful, I found the winter Cornish weather challenging to be out and about in.
