Thunder Moon Rising over the Jebels

Thunder Moon Rising over the Jebels
This is a Covid Art painting. For several weeks my community was under a 24/7 stay at home covid quarantine. This restriction was lifted a few days before the July 2020 full moon. I was happy to be able to get out of the house any time I wanted. But it is also very hot this time of year, even at night - it was 107 (f)and 30% humidity at 6:30pm on this particular evening . I drove a few blocks to the edge of the neighbourhood where the houses give way to the desert and jebels (hills) and from the comfort of my air-conditioned car watch the moon rise and the night fall over the desert, moon glow lit up the ground level moisture hanging in the air while in the clear night sky above Venus and a couple stars burned brightly. I did some sketching and color studies - but mostly I just enjoyed the cosmic dance unfold and the liberty to be sitting there watching it. Back in the studio I stayed up late trying to capture the feeling of the experience in oil on canvas with cold wax medium.
