The sky had been covered with low hanging, storm threatening clouds for several hours as I drove along I-15 in Utah towards Idaho. Suddenly, the late afternoon shift of the winds out of the mountains began sweeping away the unresolved storm clouds revealing crystal blue skies above the clouds and the the first hint of sunset below. The highway was empty of traffic so I stopped, pulling as far off the highway onto the shoulder as possible. Happily I keep a small back pack with Plein Air painting supplies in the fount seat. Staying in the car for safely, I roll down the window so I could fill my senses with the smell of almost rain, tall grasses the sound of birdsong and wind and feel the heat of the day giving way to the coming evening cool while I painted as fast as I could before another bank of storm clouds moved in from the north.
