My long time friend from high school, Brian Brown, developed a breathtaking 250 date farm, harnessing the water from a natural spring. Nestled in a valley near the town of Shishone, 30 miles south of Death Valley, the farm is nothing short of breathtaking. The rich greenery of hundreds of date palms contrasting the red ochres of the desert hills makes for an artist’s dream. I’ve been visiting this farm since 1971 enjoying it’s evolution and Brian’s history and geology lessons from many hikes. The painting, "Egret at China Ranch," is one of many paintings completed, and many more in the queue that make up the portfolio called “The China Ranch Series.”
