Summer Tempest- Keuka Lake

This painting of Keuka Lake, one othe Finger Lakes in upstate New York was based on plein air oil of the same view. While there, the sky became more dramatic and lightening was observed on the far mountains. The next week I began this studio oil, but decided to make it into a nocturne. A deep blue glaze was applied over an initial unerpainting and then further articulated during subsequent sessions. This technique of an opaque glaze was supposedly used by Rembrandt on his portraits.
