This is one of my favorite places along the river. The painting was started from a painted sketch in the early spring, and I remember feeling like there was something different while I was painting it. I soon realized that it was a bit too early in the year for the swallows that I'm accustomed to dancing across the river surface to be around. In the summertime while I'm out here painting, the swallows flit across the surface of the water, zigging and zagging across the river, and they had become such an intrinsic part of this place to me that everything felt slightly off when they weren't there. Upon finishing the painting, I decided to call it "Where Swallows Fly" as a reminder to me that as the weather warms up and the leaves come to the bare trees, the swallows will come back and this place will be just as I remember it in my mind.
