Joyce on Break

Joyce on Break was painted in oil in what I call a fast paint of about 2 hours. Joyce had been working outside all day landscaping by the lake, and I offered her water and to rest a bit, and realized I wanted to paint her right where she sat! So although delighted to see the painting process begin, she needed to get back to her yard work, so I painted the rest with a photo reference in her absence, remembering what the photo could not: that her strength, agility and determined enthusiasm served her well!
